Spring Whites 2018

Can you believe it's already spring?! I've been planning several spring inspired looks that will be coming on the blog within the next few weeks. It's definitely one of my favorite seasons, as you can finally get out those lighter layers and all of the gorgeous colors (yes I do wear color every now and then ;). One of my go-to's during spring (as well as summer eventually) is the classic white blazer look. Any blazer for that matter gives just enough structure to your casual tee outfits, and can be paired with either sneaker or heel. If you go to my Instagram (@emmakohtanen), there is a direct link on my second photo caption where you can shop this entire look!

Looks a La TOBI

I'm predicting that this is going to be one of the last "winter"-season posts as temperatures keep on raising past 80s. Sadly so, because both of these pants are one of my favorites for their effortless style, and i'm all about the easy yet polished looks. I decided to merge two posts in one, mostly because I have been quite MIA on my blog lately (so sorry! I hope you also follow me on Instagram, so you will be updated on my posts). Is it just me, or do you guys love mixing materials together? I'm talking materials that are the exact opposite like faux leather and cotton. The faux leather and cotton combination has been in style for the longest time, and I don't see it going away anywhere. It creates such a glamorous vibe that is hard to stay away from.

Cheers to 3 Year Old Blog

If you follow me on social media (Instagram), then you know that yesterday marked full three years of blogging. Whaaat! Time has flown by so fast. I remember when I first started creating my website on WordPress (later moved over to blogger where I am today), I had zero clue how to make it look at least a little bit appealing to the eye. All I can say is thank goodness for Google and YouTube tutorials. Needless to say, three years in the fashion blog industry have been fun and so rewarding from receiving positive feedback online to even meeting some of you in person. I'm definitely looking forward to upcoming years. Thanks to all of you who have continued to read my blog. I get a lot of questions regarding how to start a blog and if I have any tips for starters, so for this post I will share a few pieces of advice that I have found to be true over the years.

Tips:
1. Be picky with brand partnerships. This one is super obvious (at least now looking back on it...), but it's so easy to get off track from what your content focuses on when you get a collaboration email early on in your career. Been there done that. So when you find your niche, let's say it's fashion/beauty and a half a year later, you receive an email from a food/snack company wanting you to review their newest product. You are so excited that a company wants to work with you in the first place to the point where you say yes and fail to realize that it doesn't have anything to do with fashion/beauty. When you do sponsored posts outside your category, this is a red flag to your audience because you don't seem truly authentic. Not to mention this could hurt future collaborations opportunities.

2. Know your schedule. Be consistent in your posting. You can't gain new readers and exposure when you don't put out content in a timely manner. Consistency is definitely SO important.

3. Visuals>words. Especially true if you are wanting to start a fashion blog. Now don't get me wrong, you have to have some personality in your writing. BUT if no one can see your outfit in the photo without having to zoom, then how are they supposed to find any inspiration or spark new outfit ideas from it, let alone be excited for your future posts? Better look at that weather app and plan your shoot days accordingly. ;)

4. Patience is key. You as the blogger have 100% control over its success and what direction you want to go with it. If you are anything like me, then you know that you will have your days that are just off because maybe the outfit didn't turn out exactly like how you wanted it to. Or  you have a month where you only have a few brand partnerships and wonder what happened to my content, is it not good all of a sudden?! The little things along your blogging career end up making up the big picture. Don't get discouraged and remember why you do it.

Okay, I will stick to these four. I hope you found them somewhat useful!

Versatility at Its Finest

You've seen these pants in several looks by now from paired with casual denim to chic vests (check out my IG @emmakohtanen for more), but I can't help it! I have taken these through basically every season. That's easy to do here in GA considering the weather stays similar...ha. So if you have ever wondered this season why I haven't worn any thick coats and layers, that's why. BUT back to the pants- there is always a different way to dress them up/down whether it happens to be a bit 'chilly' or not. I love them for their effortless chicness and femininity. Oh, and not to mention they make your legs appear extra long and flattering, which is a bonus. ;)

Denims a La NAKD

If you have been following me on Instagram, then you know that I have partnered with na-kd.com to give you all a 20% discount code "kohtanen20" for this holiday season along with some inspiration through these looks styled by me. I love what they offer because there really is something for EVERYBODY, hence that 20% discount is such a good deal on their already affordable and versatile pieces! In fact, these denims, despite their uniqueness, were easily under $70, yet they give an outfit that high-end vibe. I love how much detail these pants have because they can be easily worn as the "eye-catching" piece while paired with a simple top if you wanted to keep it casual. The double denim and asymmetric hem are definitely my favorite parts, but I do have to say these run a bit large (I got a small, and are a bit loose around the waist), so size down if possible! Check out my Instagram for more NAKD styled looks.

Velvet Season a La Beach Lunch Lounge

You all know how I'm all about the basics. If I had to choose three pieces for the rest of the year, they would include a pair of denims, a basic tee, and a good shoe. However, every once in a blue moon, I come across pieces that are amazing alternatives for everyday pieces in your closet. For this season in particular, this soft velvet material is amazing and is very much in style. This top, with its cute ribbon detailing on the back, works perfectly in place of my old plain tees. Some people may be a little iffy about wearing materials that aren't seen on most people, but let me just say that this top elevated this casual look in a way that my go-to cotton tees can't. Not only can this top be worn with just jeans, but also dressed up with your favorite skirt.
